The Dragonlance Canticle Episode 15 – Tracy Hickman
Welcome to episode 15, in this show we talk with Tracy Hickman about the Dragons of the Hourglass Mage book controversy. We also discuss his other upcoming works including Dragonships which he is co-authoring with Margaret Weis and another forthcoming series Drakis which he is co-authoring with his wife Laura Hickman.
I also make a suggestion about tea that I hope everyone takes an interest in. If so, let us know. Email us, leave a comment, post on the Dragonlance Forums, get involved!

Great interview. I started a Thread in the Dragonlance Forum over at WOTC about this. Hopefully we’ll get a response, but I doubt it.

In my humble opinion. I say, screw WOTC. Setup a pay pal button on your website for “Donations” to your OWN publishing company. ~!!TORRENT!!~ the entire book, but mention no where “officially” that donations would be appreciated via your website
Please do the fans a favor, and leak it! That may also force them to publish the book. We, the fans, stand behind you! We have NO problems paying for you book, even if I torrent it for free. I would GLADLY pay DOUBLE the price, via a pay pal for..umm…”donations”…;)
That’s my 2 cents.

As nice as that would be, WotC still owns the rights DL and probably wouldn’t appreciate that.
Thought the DL Forums have mentioned that an insider, I think it was Tracy’s agent, that they have worked it out and it will be published but nothing official has been said about it yet.

Hi! Great interveiw! I was SOO exited when I saw it was with Tracy Hickman! (Nothing against Margaret Weis I’ve just already heard an interveiw with her.) Wow, I can’t believe they won’t take it! I’ve been looking forward to this book ever scince I’ve heard of it! Raistlin is tied for my favorite charicter (the other being Tas) and I was really exited to hear more about him. What a bummer!

Hypothesis: Wizards got fed up with authors who (by Tracey’s admission in this podcast) have never handed an ms in on time. Perhaps other publishers got fed up as well with that?
As for “why won’t Wizards do DL in 4e” here’s a couple of ideas:
1: Wizards are playing hardball.
2: wait for several years and then “reset” the series (eg ignore pretty much everything that’s not Chronicles). I am dreaming, I know.
3: Wait until they have finished everything in their pipeline. And then SELL the franchise to someone. Unlikely, too. Doesn’t make sense, licensing would be better.
4: Perhaps Wizards have a long-term plan to exploit money out of D&D 4e (and you can see that by the way they’ve deliberately made the core rulebooks incomplete). They don’t want to spread themselves too thin, they don’t want to saturate the market with too many products too soon.
